A Brief History of Theatre in Laleham Village

From records we know that plays were being performed in Laleham Village Hall as far back as 1939. In 1944 the name "Laleham Players" was formally adopted by a group of theatre enthusiasts who continued performing in Laleham Village Hall until 1965. Older residents tell us they have fond childhood memories of going to the panto in the hall.
It wasn't until 2
013 that the group reformed, producing six successful pantomimes in association with the LRA. After Covid halted all public performances, Laleham Players relaunched Laleham Panto in 2021 with the smash hit The Snow Queen and the Abominable Goblin followed in March 2023 with the equally successful The Princess and the Mushy Peas. In March 2024 Laleham Players second Spring panto Red and the Rotten Relatives further delighted and wowed Laleham audiences. In March 2025 the group completed a run of another Spring panto  Beauty & the Beat - A Pantomime which played to rave reviews. Written especially for the company, this upbeat, original family-friendly show was inspired by two traditional fairy tales. We would love to hear about your memories of Laleham Players productions, so please get in touch. Below is an excerpt from the Laleham Commonplace Bookpublished in the 1970s, which gives more details about the origins of Laleham Players.
